Procedure performed for resection of excess skin on thighs, often in combination with liposuction to remove the small amount of fat generally present in this region.
It is performed under general or epidural anaesthesia with sedation, eliminating prolonged hospital stays. Generally the patient remains in the recovery room for 6 to 8 hours before being released to go home.
Usually the recovery occurs with little pain and discomfort in the first three days after surgery, the which are controlled with appropriate medications. However, it should be in mind that is forbidden to make efforts in the early days in order to keep the scar to a minimum.
Normally the patient can resume normal activities in about 10 days, but to exercises a longer period is required, and may reach three months.
We use a compression garment for 30 days after surgery in order to speed recovery. Lymphatic drainage are extremelly important, usually starting on the fourth day after surgery.
The scars may be hidden in the inguinal groove and can be allocated in the inner portion of the thigh, according to the needs of each case.
